About Me
My name is Talaysia Tanner, Omaha Native and graduate of Bellevue East High School. I have always been a people person and team player. I played sports throughout my youth and thrived off feeling like I was part of something bigger than me. As I transitioned into adulthood, my passion for working with people and helping others was evident. I worked many jobs and could not find that special “one” that satisfied me completely. When I landed a job as a Resident Assistant at an assisted living facility, I realized that I had found my niche. I truly enjoyed contributing to making the residents’ lives better by lending a hand or even just an ear. I was promoted within a year and completed a certification program to become a Medication Aide. Everything has come full circle since then. I have been blessed with the opportunity to spend my days doing what I’m most passionate about, caring for an elderly family member.
As a single parent, buying scrubs was always a chore. There were often many challenges, such as pricing, fit, color, or availability. I observed that many of my healthcare peers also had similar concerns. In January 2020, my grandmother, whom I was very close to, passed away from complications of kidney disease. In that moment, I knew I wanted to do something in her honor and to make her proud. The idea of comfortable and affordable scrubs came to mind. I had no clue where to begin, but I knew I had to start somewhere. I began researching and planning. After several months of drafting and revising my business plan, I launched Scrubz R Us in June of 2020.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, frontline healthcare workers faced many obstacles to providing care to patients and I did not want this to go unnoticed. I offered discounts to many of my hardworking colleagues to show my appreciation for their hard work and sacrifice. In addition, I am establishing a scholarship for individuals to earn allied health care certifications such as Certified Nursing Assistant and Medication Aide. It brings me joy to be in a position to be able to pay it forward.
